Introduction to SGX — Why Oblivious RAM?

In our previous post, we talked about what side channels are, how they can be used to steal sensitive information and we briefly hinted on how we can make use of Oblivious RAM (ORAM) to mitigate these attacks. Before we dive deeper into what ORAM is, let us go back to the example of the clerk and try to understand what this whole ORAM business is all about.
